Pre-flux Iron Removal – Chemical Process

The effects of carry-over of ferrous iron into the kettle on the work is well known but few galvanizers have been successful in applying control to the degree necessary to achieve the potential zinc savings.

WICA Machinery has researched the problems and has developed a technically supported programme which offers the galvanizer a meaningful opportunity to change the situation and in so doing to:

  1. Radically reduce dross
  2. Increase the fluidity of the molten alloy
  3. Allows the use of nickel an economic proposition

The chemical process used is the oxidation of ferrous iron to ferric iron with hydrogen peroxide.

The equally important pre-flux management software sees ferrous iron maintained at or below 0.5 g/l, the pre-flux solution maintained as a balanced salt and the nature of the pre-flux maintained such that it does not corrode the work to form more ferrous iron
